Good morning fabulous BlondeLife readers, it is your favorite blonde back at it again with another blog post for you all, this week’s topic being on satisfying ways to declutter your life. After the first few months of quarantine I know we were all on the same ungodly high level of boredom where we were dressing up just for our FaceTime dates and injuring ourselves trying to memorize TikTok dances because we literally had nothing else better to do. So rather than laying in bed watching a bunch of James Charles’s makeup videos, I decided to use my time a little more wisely and clear out various areas of my life that I otherwise wouldn’t normally have time to do pre-covid. While things have been starting to open up again such as the curfew being lifted, I know many of us are still in lingo and are pretty bored so I thought I would share this list with you so you can start decluttering your lives and have a cleaner, more efficient living environment when going back to your normal routines.
- Delete old documents from your computer. This is pretty self explanatory. Get rid of the junk you don’t need on your laptop. For Mac users like myself, all of those unnecessary files on your desktop are probably what is taking up so much space in your iPhone backup that you didn’t even realize.
- Reorganize files on your computer. Now that you’ve tossed what you don’t need, organize the files you have so they are more easily accessible when you need them.
- Delete old apps off phone that you don’t use
- Reorganize apps and home screen on your phone. My home screen is extremely organized with categories such as “Mail, Social Media, Watch, Location, Photo and Video, Education, Shopping, Money, News, Work, etc. Doing this has been extremely helpful in finding the apps I need to use and I know it will help you too. I even created a section called “useless shit” for the apps that are just taking up space that I can’t delete because they come with the phone. I have that section on the second page so it is out of sight of the important apps I need to use on a regular basis. Just a little idea for the annoying apps taking space up on your main screen 🙂
- Delete old pictures/screenshots you don’t need
- Organize photos on your phone into folders; create shared folders for vacations/events. How many times have you wanted to post a specific picture but couldn’t remember when you took it and had to spend a ridiculous amount of time scrolling through old pictures to try and find it? Similarly, how many times have you had someone ask for pictures from a specific event you attended together but you weren’t able to locate the photos because their lost in the thousands of photos in your gallery and can’t remember when it was? We’ve all been there. Just take some time while you’re scrolling through and deleting old pictures to organize groups of photos you do like whether they be selfies, memes, or pictures from a wedding. When you come across a group of photos you’d like to organize and save, just select the grouping of photos and hit “add to album” to create an album for yourself or click “Add to shared album” for albums that include friends or family and add the people you’d like to share it with so they can access the photos at any point in time without having to ask you for them. Now when you want to find photos from a specific vacation, just look under the Shared Albums Section and click on “Jamaica Trip 2019.” This is much faster than trying to scroll back two years to find the same photos.
- Making a password pdf and saving it to all devices. How annoying is it when you can’t remember a password and have to jump through ten steps just to try and change or recover your old password? A text or email is sent to verify, now click the link to create a new password, enter your phone number, enter the five-digit security code that was just texted to you, provide them your blood type, yeah that’s too much for me. Make one pdf of all your passwords (organize that paper by category), save it as a pdf and send it to all your devices. You’re welcome.
- Delete old texts/clear out message feeds. Yes, main people are important, but get rid of all the threads of texts from people you don’t normally talk to. It’s okay, they won’t know you deleted them.
- Go through emails and unsubscribe to all or as many spam emails as possible. Tedious and annoying as hell, but so worth taking the time to do it. Not having to delete dozens of spam emails every day out of your inbox will be such a time saver.
- Clear out and sort your lock box/storage bins
- Try on old clothes and get rid of items you don’t wear anymore
- Go through pen/pencil drawer and throw out utensils that don’t work
- Ladies: sort through old makeup and toss what you aren’t using. Let me be the one to tell you that you won’t use the last of an old blush compact you got five years ago as a white elephant gift for Christmas. You and I both know you have the same makeup routine and use the same products every day, just throw away or give away the old stuff you don’t use.
- Men: go through socks and underwear and toss what is stained, has permanent stench or holes. Absolutely disgusting but extremely necessary.
- Ladies: Reorganize shampoo/lotion bottles and throw away what’s expired, what you don’t like or what you will never use
- Clear out refrigerator, wipe down the inside shelves and door and throw away expired food
- Do step 15 with your pantry and other shelves in the kitchen
- Clean out your car, organize the middle compartment and glove compartment, and get your car washed. Think about it, when was the last time your car had a detailed clean? Seats and carpets cleaned/vacuumed out? Spend an hour or two really cleaning out your car and it’ll be the best driving around in what feels like a brand new car.
I know a lot of these can seem long and annoying but I PROMISE when you are done with some of these you will feel so much better about yourself and your living space.
